Destination Weddings

More and more lately we see couples from interstate (largely Melbourne and Sydney) temporarily migrate to the beautiful coastline and hinterland of the Gold Coast or Byron Bay region to build their wedding day, and who can blame them?

This stunning region is just a short plane trip away from our major capital cities along the east coast, and allows couples and their guests to enjoy the celebration without having to think about getting up and running errands the next day, in an entirely relaxed state of mind. If you’re thinking, “we’ll get married in Byron Bay and I don’t think many of our invited guests will come because of the travel” …think again. People love an excuse to visit a beautiful part of the country for a little holiday, and what better way to do it than celebrating a family or friend’s wedding in the process.

If you’re thinking of planning your very own destination wedding to this region, you should consider engaging a wedding planner to help. Having your own personal planner who is in the area, understands the venues and knows all of the local suppliers can be a huge advantage and take the stress away from you throughout the entire process. Many of our clients are in this exact situation and we have a 100% strike rate with satisfaction once the wedding is complete and they’re able to reflect on just how easy having a destination wedding was.

Are the days of a traditional bridal party over?

A trend we see more and more is the shake up of the traditional bridal party.

Brides are opting for ‘bridesmen’ over bridesmaids and grooms are considering their sister as a ‘best man’.

Couples are also shunning the tradition of having an even bridal party. Instead of selecting a random cousin to make up the numbers, couples are having one groomsmen to two bridesmaids or three groomsmen for one lucky bridesmaid.

Another option is to go without a bridal party at all. If you don’t want to pick one friend over another, why not forgo the bridal party and use your mums or grandparents as witnesses? Friends can still be involved in your special day- the bride and her besties (no need to leave anyone out) can have breakfast together as they get ready for the ceremony and the groom can play golf with his mates before he says I do.

We recommend you do what suits you and your situation best. Don’t stick to tradition for the sake of it. It can be refreshing to mix it up!

The yearly wrap - part 2

Ok, it's time to officially wrap up 2016! This is part 2 of my blog outlining some of our feature weddings from the past year. If you haven't read part 1 and would like to, you can find it below. Enjoy :)

Grace & Steve

It was our absolute pleasure to assist the lovely Grace and her groom Steve in planning their wedding day at the gorgeous Ecostudio Fellini in Mudgeeraba. They were married in an emotion filled outdoor ceremony. Grace looked stunning in her Made With Love gown and Steve and their young son also scrubbed up beautifully in their suits.

Immediately after the ceremony guests enjoyed canapes on the lawn, before moving inside for a three course sit down reception with entertainment from a solo saxophonist.

Grace and Steve had their wedding photos on the Ecostudio Fellini grounds, which was the perfect backdrop for their huge smiles. They returned in time to enjoy canapes and drinks with their guests and continued to party into the night. This wedding was a simple and elegant affair, painting the picture for this gorgeous bride and groom.

Kirrily & Tom

This couple were so engaged and enthusiastic about the big day, and we absolutely loved working with them. Kirrily in particular worked closely with us for over seven months as she had a magical vision of her dream wedding, and we helped her to transform it into a reality.

Kirrily & Tom chose the beautiful Forget Me Not for their wedding reception, and they also hosted their ceremony on the grounds. They wanted to create a relaxed and fun wedding with many friends and family travelling from interstate to attend, and those who travelled far were certainly not disappointed. They were treated to delicious food, an array of boutique beverages, entertaining speeches and a fabulous dance floor.

We arranged for guests to arrive at the venue by coach, who were then escorted to the lakeside ceremony location where Kirrily & Tom were married under the trees. Guests then enjoyed drinks on the lawn before making their way to the enormous Sperry Tent to enjoy an oyster bar and canapes as the sun set over the hills.

Gathered around long dining tables with white cloths and vine centrepieces, guests enjoyed a delicious feasting menu for dinner, before going on to – you guessed it – dance the night away.

The yearly wrap - part 1

With 2016 almost behind us, I thought it was time to let you all know about some of the amazing weddings we have worked on over the year, before we all get caught up in the joy of Christmas. Hopefully some of this information can inspire your wedding plans for the new year!

Michelle & Ed

The wonderful and super fun-loving Michelle & Ed gave us our first experience in planning and coordinating a wedding at the gorgeous Forget Me Not in Coopers Shoot, just outside of Bangalow, NSW.

We met Michelle & Ed early in the year to look for their dream venue, and were so glad they chose this luscious property, set amongst the rolling hills of the Northern NSW Hinterland - it truly is amazing.

A blank canvas venue, we worked closely with a range of wonderful suppliers to ensure all elements for the wedding were delivered. They selected the unique Byron Bay Pavilions structure and included an outdoor dance floor so guests could dance under the stars. Ed's very talented sister decided to take on the role of styling the pavilion, which included a magnificent hanging floral piece that wowed guests.

Following their wedding ceremony at St. Kevin’s in Bangalow, guests arrived on buses at Forget Me Not for sunset canapes and drinks on the lawn. The party then moved into the pavilion to share a feasting menu across four long wooden farm tables.

To cap off a stunning evening, they engaged local soul legend Lisa Hunt to sing under the stars so they and their guests could dance the night away. What an amazing wedding!

Angela & Joe

What can you say about Angela & Joe, our most recent wedded clients. The most beautiful couple, they were a joy to work with as we planned their special day at Parkwood International on the Gold Coast.

Working closely with Angela, who was based interstate, we sourced the venue, planned the ceremony styling, bridal flowers, videographer, catering and guest transport needs. Angela & Joe had over 200 guests attend their wedding with an outdoor ceremony in the gorgeous on-course pavilion and then a seated reception in the Ballroom at QT Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise.

Angela had a vision of an elegant, flower filled wedding and she was not disappointed. We worked closely with a number of suppliers to transform the wedding pavilion into her white wedding dream. The pavilion was styled with faux flower pieces, white drapes and finished with a gorgeous rose wall, which certainly stole the show. The white carpet, shepherd hooks, and white and gold tiffany chairs finished off the space perfectly and complemented the green grass and blue sky, creating a ceremony space that guests will not forget.

Following the ceremony, conducted by their local Pastor, the bride & groom and their bridal party took to the golf course in buggies for their photos (which was a super fun experience!). Guest were escorted to enjoy drinks in the Grand View Room at the venue before travelling by coach to the wedding reception. Another beautiful wedding successfully completed, and another happy couple. Tick.

Check back in a few days for Part 2 of my yearly wrap...

Nine months in...

Nine months in, and we've learnt a lot.

After quietly helping to plan a few weddings in the background and sharing our knowledge of event management with friends and family (just the nice kind of people we are!), Laura and I decided to dive head first into the wedding planning industry by launching Elle & Sea, and boy has it been a ride. Working with some of the most beautiful couples and talented suppliers, we feel truly blessed to be slowly cementing our place in the market as a leading wedding planning business for the region.

Who could imagine a better place to tie the knot with your soul mate than the South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales region! From lush green grass, to soft white sand and crystal clear blue skies, we have it all on our door step. From Byron Bay to the Gold Coast, whether it’s the beach you’re after or the Hinterland, there is something for everyone.

Next month we’ll bring together big and beautiful weddings after months of planning for the superbly stunning Michelle & Ed and the magnificent Kirrily & Tom. Both weddings are taking place amongst the rolling hills at Forget Me Not in Coopers Shoot, NSW. The venue is so beautiful and is befitting of both of these future bride & grooms. We have no doubt they are about to experience the best day of their lives with their dream wedding.

This is what it’s all about. This is why putting the ‘Sea’ in Elle & Sea has been so much fun. When the curtain raises and the show begins, and you see the pure joy on two people’s faces as they become one, it makes us realise we have one of the best jobs on earth.

Here’s hoping the next nine months bring even more excitement.
